About Chimneys

  • I am having a problem with my fireplace or chimney.  See our Solutions page.
  • Why should I have my chimney swept by a professional chimney sweep?  A professional chimney sweep can remove soot and other debris that could cause a chimney fire; as well as perform an inspection to understand the condition of your chimney system.
  • How often should I have my chimney swept?  The NFPA recommends that you have your chimney inspected (and serviced if necessary) at least once each year.
  • How do you sweep a chimney?  We use traditional brushes, rods, and a sweep’s vacuum to control any material that might float in the air, along with drop clothes and/or plastic sheeting. There is no mess.
  • What is the chimney liner? The chimney liner is the “inside of the chimney;” it does the work of containing flue gases (smoke, steam, carbon monoxide, etc.), keeping your home safe.
  • What is the difference between a pre-fabricated and masonry chimney? A masonry chimney is built by a mason one brick at a time, standing on its own foundation. A pre-fabricated chimney is produced at a factory and assembled at the home site.
  • Didn’t my home Inspector inspect the chimney?  Home inspectors aren’t responsible for most of the chimney system see the fine print in your home inspection report.
  • What can I do to get ready for my chimney sweeping? Have no fire for 24 hours, clear a 3’ wide path from the door to fireplace, and clear an area approximately 6’-8’ in front of fireplace.
  • Can you handle real estate transactions?  We understand the special needs of those working with real estate or buying selling their own home; please call for any concerns.

About Dryer Vents

  • Do you sweep dryer vents? Yes we service dryer vents; dryer vent function is similar to chimney physics.
  • Why should I have my dryer vent serviced?  Efficiency is the number one benefit for most people, although the operation of the dryer can be affected by a partially blocked vent.
  • How do you sweep out a dryer vent? Special brushes and rods attached to a heavy drill loosen debris while blower attached to the exhaust behind the dryer force it out of your home.
  • When should I have my dryer vent serviced? When you have any concerns at all. We test the air flow at all points allowing us to diagnose any problems (it could be your dryer, rather than your vent). You should also have your dryer vent serviced when you purchase a home to know the condition of the dryer vent.
